Embracing the Seasons

We often get questions about different flavors, if we have a certain flavor that was once on the menu, when we'll have it again, why we don't have it, etc. 

The answer to all of these questions can be boiled down to one answer. At Big Spoon, we have a foundational principle that we are constantly thinking about. We craft our menu based on seasonal produce and ingredients. The reason behind this is simple: we want to serve you the best ice cream possible. And the best ice cream comes from the best ingredients. Produce tastes best when harvested at peak season, so we're committed to only using seasonal produce. This means that our flavors are constantly rotating as we progress through the seasons.

Generally speaking, we change our menu each month to reflect the seasons. Of course, some staple flavors remain on the menu, and other seasonal flavors rotate on/off. We embrace celebrating each season, looking forward to what each will bring! Spring brings strawberries, honeysuckle, and lots of fresh herbs! Summer brings endless amounts of blackberries, blueberries, watermelons, and peaches! And as we draw into late summer and fall, we get plums, figs, apples, and pears. Winter is a little sparse on local seasonal produce, but it does bring amazing satsumas and meyer lemons! 

Even beyond produce, we love to celebrate seasons with our flavors. We want to take the best of each season and incorporate it on our menu! So if you don't see your favorite flavor on the menu, don't worry, it will be back! But in the meantime, celebrate the season with us and let us help you find a new favorite!
