working the register
On your first day of onsite training, your main focus will be learning the register, and getting used to interacting with our customers!
Here we'll just give you a little head start on what to expect:
When a customer approaches the register, before you start entering their order, greet them warmly!!
Say "Hey, how are you!" or "How is your day going?" once they have responded, proceed to ask them what they ordered: "What are we having today?" or "What favors of ice cream did you choose??"
After you find out which flavors and ice cream items they have, you can begin entering it into the register!
While working the iPad square system is not overly complicated, it is important to be thorough to get everything right when checking out customers.
The first thing you should know is categories. The picture above is what you will see every time you open to the register.
2. How to add items
Next we'll show you how to add an item (you will follow these same steps for adding any type of item) but we're going to add some scoops!
You will click on the "scoops" category and select which flavor the customer chose.
It's important to enter the right flavor because it helps us keep record of what we're selling!
***NOTE: If a customer orders a double or triple scoop, do not enter the flavor simply select "double" or "triple" scoop.

Now that you've added the scoop flavor, you see the customer has also ordered some salted caramel! Let's add that to their ticket.

Click the toppings category and scroll down to select salted caramel.
5.Cone or cup?
If a customer got their scoop in a cup, you will not add anything else BUT if they ordered a cone you will select the cone category and add the cone to the ticket.
6. shortcut for adding scoops
If you noticed that two customers ordered the same chocolate scoop in a cup, you can click on the chocolate scoop on the right sales bar and press the "+" symbol. You can do this to any item!
After adding that item, this is what your sales ticket should look like!
Here you will select which discount you are applying to the sales ticket
Next we're going to show you how to apply a discount! (All discount policies are in your Big Spoon employee handbook.)
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT WORKING THE REGISTER
These are just the basics that you will need to know! Your first Front of House training day, you will learn more in depth about this BUT it is important to remember we don't want this to be a cold transaction.
Be grateful, enthusiastic and take time to really talk and interact with the customer!
